ESTATE TAX PLANNING AND CHARITABLE GIVING

Our firm advises clients in the full range of estate and trust matters, helping them with estate planning to minimize estate taxes while achieving their individual objectives and guiding them on tax-smart gifts to charity and family.  We emphasize eliminating estate tax and reducing income tax by careful planning.  We typically assist clients with wills, testamentary trusts, inter vivos trusts, insurance trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts (GRAT's), charitable remainder unitrusts or annuity trusts (CRUT's and CRAT's), charitable lead trusts (CLT's), family limited partnerships (FLP's) or limited liability companies, business recapitalizations, and numerous other estate planning and charitable giving devices. Our attorneys in this area are Wendell R. Bird, Mark P. Miller, and Thomas O. Kotouc.

Wendell R. Bird has published ten tax articles on estate planning and charitable gift techniques, the first one 27 years ago in Taxes.   He wrote the course materials and co-taught the Advanced Estate Planning course for a national financial planning organization. He is a member of the ABA Section on Probate and Trust Law as well as co-chair of the ABA Subcommittee on Charitable Contributions.

Mark P. Miller concentrates in the estate and trust area.

Thomas O. Kotouc, of counsel to the firm, similarly concentrates in the estate and trust area.

Our firm does estate planning and trusts in all fifty states, using local attorneys and accountants where appropriate.
